| The RCIA is a journey
entered into by one who is not Catholic but who would like to find
out more about the Catholic faith, usually with some interest in
possibly becoming Catholic. No commitment to becoming
Catholic, however, needs to be made in order to begin this process.
The first step an adult enters into
is their participation in a discussion group called Inquiry.
This group meets once a week for about an hour, with discussion
facilitators, and talks about any and all issues relating to the
Catholic Church. Participants may come with questions or may
come just to listen. It's an open-forum discussion utilized to
introduce the faith to those participating.
The next stage is a period called
the Catechumenate. It is at this point that participants have
usually made some decision toward becoming Catholic. The
weekly discussion group continues, but with a little more focus now,
covering specific topics of church teachings. In addition, the
group attends Mass together and participates in a short discussion
following the Liturgy of the Word. All of this is done with an
eye toward the individual receiving his or her sacraments at the
upcoming Easter Vigil.
Everyone is on an individual faith
journey and the RCIA is merely an instrument to assist that journey.
Please call the parish office if you'd like to find out more about
the Church and the RCIA.
